A spoken-word odyssey, “Story of Another Soul” moves through memory, love, ancestry, displacement and selfhood. Huda’s poetry draws from written and improvised material, while Reuben’s trumpet and live electronics create a sonic world in dialogue with her voice. Through improvisation, the two artists respond to one another in real time, allowing the work to shift and take form as it unfolds. The film documents this exchange as it happens in real time.
